Information about Tanks, Vessels and Add-Ons:
What is a Mild Steel Tank System?
A tank system consists of a primary container with
an integral secondary containment
The inner tank provides the required storage area,
whilst the outer tank forms a watertight bund with capacity for 110%
of the total liquid stored.
The inner tank is manufactured generally to BS799
Part 5 and the tanks are manufactured in new primed steel of a thickness
of steel sheet to suit the capacity required.
Certification of the steel is available upon request.
The tanks are manufactured with a venting system which
allows any overfilling that may occur to flow straight into the bund
cavity, which in turn can be fitted with either a gauge, or alarm, which
would detect any overfilling or leakage.
The tanks have top outlets only, which can be used
for filling, suction drains, gauges and pumps. No tanks are made with
any outlets through the bund wall unless specifically requested by our
clients.
Our tanks comply with all current known legislation
(DETR, Environment Agency, DEFRA).
What is a Bunded Tank?
A Bunded Tank (preferred
generic term: Proprietary Tank System or Tank System) consists of a
primary container with an integral secondary containment. The inner tank
provides the required storage area, whilst the outer tank forms a watertight
bund with capacity for 110% of the total liquid stored.
What is a fuelling station?
A fuelling station provides containment for the ancilliary
equipment associated with the tank.
How Do I Choose A Pump?
How Many Litres Per Minute Do I Need?
Typical forecourt pump dispenses at 35L/min (Litres per minute)
Pumping speeds of 35 to 50L/min are ideal for refuelling
cars, vans, forklifts and small plant equipment.
Pumping speed of 70L/min is ideal for refuelling large vans
and small trucks.
Pumping speed of 90L/min is ideal for refuelling large trucks,
buses, coaches, and large plant equipment.
How Accurately Do I Want To Measure My Fuel?
Pumps with +/- 0.5% accuracy are similar to those of forecourt
pumps. If you fill a vehicle with fuel this type of pump shows 100 litres
on the display, it means you actually dispensed between 99.5 and 100.5
litres, leaving an uncertainty of 4 litres or 4 times worse than the
+/- 0.5% type of pump
Pumps with +/- 2% accuracy are less expensive but less accurate.
If you fill a vehicle with fuel until this type of pump shows 100 litres
on the display, it means you actually dispensed anything between 98
and 102 litres, leaving an uncertainty of 4 litres.
These errors may not seem much, but if you apply this to
your overall fuel bill the difference becomes substantial. For example,
if you dispense 10,000 litres per month from a pump having an accuracy
of +/-2%, then you have actually used between 9,800 and 10,200. This
is uncertainty of 400 litres per month, at say 80 pence per litre, would
equate to £320.
Where Is My Fuel Storage Tank?
If your tank is below ground
you need a pump with a much better suction capability. If your tank
is above ground less suction lift is required. Your pump will only work
correctly if properly installed.

B
= Cylindrical horizontal tank
C
= Rectangular tank
NONE
= This will only show the contents in height i.e. Millimetres
/ Inches
EXAMPLE:-
A rectangular tank measuring 2500mm High x 2500mm
Wide x 6000mm Long
When in TANK?
Choose shape 'C'.
The

number '5'
then press
ENT, the next two digits will be '0'
so press ENT twice. The height is now set to 2500mm.
The
screen will change to TANK SHAPE C WIDTH 00000. The
first digit is a '0' so press ENT,
scroll up/down to reach the number '2' press ENT,
